Lightroom Classic and Import/Organise IOS photos

Hi I am new but could not see any topics relating to this. I have imported all my Mac Photo folders into Lightroom. I use a Sony A7III camera but I have many photos on my Iphone and these are growing. How do I handle Iphone photos importing and their organisation within LR? I can connect my phone to the Mac and LR will see it and allow importing of photos. I woudl be grateful for tips on how I might organise these lareg numbers of photos , often taken at the same event as with my Sony Mirrorless camera. e.g. I shot at a wedding and also used the Iphone for many photos and especially videos. Do I import these into a separate folder under same Date and heading?

New events might be manageable but what about all the iphone photos over the past 10 years? I am getting a headache even thinking how I might structure the import process and then how I woudl organise it. Tips would be very welcome.

Thank you

Jas

Hi Jasjeet. Good luck with your categorization. I've no idea if Lightroon has what you need. But, i can relate. i use a product called "DearMob iphone manager" for about a year. It's a bit pricey, but i use it to manage image files from 2 iphones, as well as an ipad. I copy the appple product images wholesale to a set of pre-arranged folders on my windows pc. I then browse, cull, and copy images as i see fit based upon use(print, archive, forward), and delete from each appliances' icloud. Then i can choose to re-load my apple with whatever fewer images that i would find useful. Best 'o luck with whatever you do! MY

I don't sort my photo folders by date, but rather use event, so a wedding, regardless of the camera I use will all be in the same folder. Since date is included in the Metadata, using it for a filing system seems duplicative. If you have a directory with 50 or 100 subdirectories, each with a different date, you have to remember or keep another file that correlates the dates with the event. So all the pictures I took of the Grand Canyon is in the Grand Canyon directory and easily found. There are may options to sort/search within LrC to find a specific image on a specific date.

The trick when using several cameras is to make sure all the cameras are set to the identical time. This way when sorting by date and time, they will be in sequential order. Cullung images before or after is a personal choice. I prefer to delay culling out photos from family and other one-time events. You may have an image of a person, though not the best, could be the only image you have of that person and that could be important at some later date. As a personal project, I do small photo albums of deceased family members for his or her immediate family. A recently decreased elderly family member holding a newborn is precious, and no one, absolutely no one, is going to comment or notice that it is a poor shot.

Thank you everyone and I value the help. Michael I'll take a look at Dear Mob. Its Lightroom Classic on Mac, MArk. Thanks for the link.

Barry, I agree with your appropach. Issues is havign to go back 20yrs+ and I have everythign by year and Month/event. So decided to stick with this and use collections to organise by theme/event/occasion etc. I am doing this as I go along now and if ever get time I'll try and go back and organise previous years.

With Iphone photos I suppose I can import to same folder and the time stamps shoudl keep them in chronological order and I can use LT's search feature to isolate by camera/lens etc. Does this seem reasonable?
