Updating AI Edits

I recently bought a Dell 16 plus computer and have an issue re "updating AI edits. I've done what Adobe support has suggested without success. Every time I make an edit a box pops up:

"Lightroom has encountered an issue updating AI edits. Future edits may not be saved and could be lost. Please contact customer support for troubleshooting."

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have Adobe dial in and fix it for you. They are usually very helpful.

Thanks.

Today my lightroom Classic would not open and I get the error message " Lightroom Classic could not open Ai Edits storage. Please refer to backup catalog and contact customer support" . I notice quite a few people reporting the same issu in November.

I have reinstalled LrC and this did not help. I have gone to my backup file from 2 days ago and opened it. LrC die open with that file. I then backed up my catalogue as I closed the LrC app. On attempting to relaunch fro the nornal shortcut I was presented with the original issue.

Is this a LrC issue or have I screwed sommeting up? any help would be appreciated.

Problem Solved..... After trying many potential solutions that did not work, last night I tried restoring from a backup file that was 2 days older than the one I used when the problem first arose. This resolved the problem and LrC is now opening properly.

I dont know why this backup worked and the original one I used didn't. I just so plesed to be back to normal with he app.

LR classic newbie

is it even possible to come across someone such as me?

im an absolute idiot when it comes to LRC so be kind. i have downloaded a ton of photos in my mac studio hard drive LRC and now need to move all of these off onto an external hard drive to maximize efficiency. i just bought AM’s video course on LRC hence im here. will the videocourse teach me this particular step or not? if it doesnt will AM have a one on one service to let me do just this?

omg !! you cant imagine how valuable this info is. whats the workflow to download from card to mac and external hard drive to keep sony creative profiles.. i know you know (fingers crossed)

Well, I shoot in RAW and have my Sony Creative Profiles off. However, if you import the images into LRC, it should bring all the information with the files. I don't know for sure (perhaps AM has more detailed technical knowledge than I about this subject) but my understanding is that the Creative Profile data is incorporated into the JPG or HEIF files. It is also included in the preview JPG files LRC uses to display the images on your computer.

I transfer my photos from my CF Express A cards via a card reader attached to my computer. In my LRC, when I insert a card into the card reader the Import window opens. There are a few things I like to do before importing the photos:

  1. I click the box to eject the card after import. When transfering from CF Express A, the reader can get warm so I like to end the process immediately after transfer.

  2. Make sure the dialog at the top of the screen says "Import" and "Copy". You don't want to "Move" or "Add" the files. Move does that and if there's a problem, the files could be lost. Add will add the files but not move them to your hard drive.

  3. I rename every file automatically as it is imported. Remember that your camera will often reuse filenames. To avoid clashing with other files, I run a Preset that changes the filenames automatically upon import.

  4. I also run a preset that adds my copyright information into the metadata of every photo imported.

  5. I select or create a folder into which the files will be copied.

LRC Import

Here's what my import screen looks like. There isn't enough room to display it all but the SSD drive I use is PhotoArchive3 and the specific folder is down the list a bit.

I hope this helps.

On1 Photo Raw

I have been using On1 Photo Raw for more than 5 years and moved because of the annual subscription in Adobe - although I moved to an annual in ON1 which is much more reasonable. There are also other features such as maintaining control of your images if you later chang.

Recently, I have become very frustrated with ON1 glitches, most recently with ON1 2026 Masking which frequently does not recognize a subject and if you use Super Select AI to create a mask, it does not remove the image when you click the Blue Check Mark at the Top. My understanding is ON1 is addressing these issues.

Also, in my photoclubs most everyone uses Lightroom and I even use Photoshop Element which seems to do a better job of subject collection.

I understand neither are perfect, but would I be happier with Lightroom.

I have invested lot of time in ON1 and have two of your courses, including your newest which is excellent.

Lightroom/Photoshop Compatibility

I was having problems when moving from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop. I went through the suggestions in the "How to Maximize Lightroom_Photoshop Compatibility" video. I found some good help but now, when I open lightroom Classic 15.0, Windows 11, I get a message that says, "Lightroom cannot write to the following directories. Until this problem is resolved, syncing from Lightroom may not function correctly." The following directory is C:\Users. I'm not sure what I changed while working through the How to Maximize Lightroom_Photoshop Compatibility" video. What did I change while making Lightroom and Photoshop more commpatibile that may have caused this. Thanks for suggestions and help.

I'm sorry. I wasn't clear enough about what is happening. I have no problem going from LR to PS. The problem is that when I open Lightroom a message pops up on my screen that says: "Lightroom cannot write to the following directories. Until this problem is resolved, syncing from Lightroom may not function correctly." The following directory it refers to is C:\Users. It must be a sync problem as the pop-up says, but I can't figure out how to fix it so that I no longer get the message.

This also appears on my Mac sometimes. I checked the Adobe forums and it seems fairly common. Just ignore it is the advice I received and followed. So far, I've not encountered an errors because of it. My guess is that there are some protected folders in both Windows and Mac that Lightroom doesn't need but can't access which gives the error.

Photo raw 26

Just started your new Course. Is there anything on how to batch process files in Raw 26 and can you do that?

ON1 Photo RAW vs Lightroom Classic

Hi Anthony--I own a few of your courses and am very appreciative of the work you do and have done to help all of us learn to use these tools better. I see that you have a new course on ON1 Photo RAW 26. I tried ON1 a long time ago and at that time didn't think it made sense for me to spend the time to learn yet another photo editor that seemed great in some regards but quite lacking in others. With all of your experience using both programs can you possibly share why I might want to choose ON1 RAW now vs LR? Or not? I realize that this is a big topic that would probably require a video to really answer, but, short of that can you give your sense of it. I really trust your opinion. And thanks again!

It's been my experience that most of the people I've talked to switched to On1 because they didn't like Adobe's subscription model.

Unable to load presets in ON1 2026

I just tried loading the ON1 Photo Raw presets into the new "2026" and I keep getting error messages. I had to change the suffix on the file from ONPresets to "ONP" before 2026 would even recognize the file.

Preset file still would no load properly into ON1 2026.

Mastering Topaz Labs Photo AI - update coming?

Sometime within the next 6-24 months we'll be moving to a location without high speed internet access, not at any price. Hence I'm transitioning to Topaz Photo AI for all editing while keeping Lightroom for management of my library. I can accept the slower speed processing off line.

Is Anthony going to update the Mastering Topaz Labs Photo AI course or do I need to look elsewhere?

Burhaneddin,

Your reply is mostly inaccurate and finally you complain that the software companies don't give you free software.

The suite is an integration of existing products much as Adobe does with their cloud subscriptions. I have the Adobe basic subscription which includes Lightroom, Photoshop and Camera Raw; all of which work the same in a package as they did as separate products. All of which get continuous enhances that are funded by the subscription fee.

Topaz Studio is a similar packaging though, over time, we can expect to see more integration between the products. Enhancing features does NOT require a completely new course from Anthony. We can still learn the existing features from his current course and check the specific enhancements at the Topaz learning site, which is free.

Subscriptions make sense to those of us who want to see continuous improvement in the products. Those improvements need to be funded. If you are not willing to support these enhancements then use one of the free photo editing tools such as Dark Table though they need contributions to continue funding their tools.

InDesign

Can someone recommend a good course on Adobe InDesign? I'm looking for something aimed at photographers who want to learn InDesign to make zines and books.

I've not found a good comprehensive course on InDesign. I learned it via Skillshare:
