My “Influencer” Page on Amazon

Amazon Influencer Page

I was recently invited by Amazon to create what they call an Influencer Page. Every day I receive questions about gear and what I recommend — with this page, I’m creating a list of gear that I’ve actually used and can recommend comfortably knowing that my recommendations will satisfy the discerning photographer.

Only gear I own or have actually used will be on this page. I will never recommend anything that I haven’t had the opportunity to test and use.

Affiliate Links

Full disclosure: If you purchase any gear from my influencer page, I will receive an affiliate commission from the sale. The gear won’t cost you one penny more and the commission I earned will go to helping me make better photography how-to videos.

Review: K&F Concept – DSLR Camera Travel Backpack

Review: K&F Concept – DSLR Camera Travel Backpack

Several months ago, I did a tripod review from a relatively new company — K&F Concept. Because so many of you emailed me telling me how much you liked that tripod and how you couldn’t believe it was of such high quality for such an affordable price, I decided to try out another one of K&F Concept’s products, a backpack.

Currently, I have a HUGE Lowepro Pro Trekker backpack that holds a ton of gear. Well, maybe not a ton but it holds a lot and when filled with gear, it’s heavy! On a recent trip to New York City, I filled up that backpack and it weighed almost 85 pounds! It was a backbreaker! I don’t always need to carry all of that gear and have been longing for a backpack that’s not only a bit lighter but a bit less bulky as well...

Review: K&F Concept TM2324 Lightweight Travel Tripod

Review: K&F Concept TM2324 Lightweight Travel Tripod

I have a love-hate relationship with tripods. I love using a tripod for the obvious reasons, most notably that I’m more apt to have a perfectly focused, sharp image. On the other hand, I hate tripods because I’ve never been able to find the perfect tripod. Maybe I’m overly fussy but the tripod that is sturdy and stable enough for my liking, is all too often, much too heavy to carry for longer periods of time. On the other hand, those that are light enough to take on long hikes or while traveling, tend to be unstable or too breakable. I’ve yet to find the perfect one — my tripod soulmate.

I do have one that I love. I’ve talked about it before – it’s a heavy carbon fiber tripod made by Vanguard that I paired with an extremel...

Display Calibration Tools

Display Calibration Tools

I often get questions about screen calibration and many more questions from photographers unhappy with their prints. Most often, disappointing prints are the result of a noncalibrated monitor. I’ve personally used two different screen calibrators and recommend either of them. You can find there here along with a short write-up explaining why I like them.

I Did It

by Anthony Morganti

I Did It… I broke down and ordered the Nikon D850

Yesterday, in a moment of weakness, I ordered the new offering from Nikon, the D850 to replace my aging Nikon D800e. Its official release date is today but I apparently waited a bit too long to place my preorder because I’ve received word that mine will not be shipped until around September 15th.

Why I ordered it

Well, I can’t sit here and claim that I NEED it. I admit that I’m suffering from GAS – Gear Aquisition Syndrome and because of that ailment, I ordered it. My D800e is great and working fine and I’ve taken most of my best and most well-known pictures with it but the improvements obtainable in the D850 were too much to pass up.

Specifically what?

I don’t sell a lot of prints — as a matter of fact, except for c...

My Gear Recommendations

My Gear Recommendations

Every day I get emails from people asking me my opinion about a specific piece of photography gear — cameras, lenses, tripods, memory cards — the list goes on. It’s difficult for me to give an opinion about much of the gear people email me about because I have one simple rule — I won’t recommend anything that I haven’t used myself, or at least have a pretty good understanding of. Fortunately for me, I teach photography and over the years, I’ve delved into the menu systems and seen the RAW files from many different cameras and lenses used by my students. Because of that, I have a fairly good idea what gear might be best for a photographer who’s just beginning, a photographer ready to turn pro and everybody in-between.

With that in mind, I’ve created a list of recomm...

Most often when we’re starting out in photography we can’t afford expensive studio strobes. In this video I talk about a specific continuous led light from Banggood.com — the Aputure (sic) AL-H160.
