2 – Snowy Owls, Waterfalls and Much More

by Anthony Morganti

Here is another in a regular series of short blog posts or as I prefer to call them, essays, on things I’ve learned about photography that weren’t taught to me in a classroom or a textbook. Hence the name:

Photography After the Textbook

This photograph of a Snowy Owl was purchased from Adobe Stock because Anthony Morganti doesn’t like the cold and is too lazy to get up early and go out in the cold to take a Snowy Owl Picture for himself

2 – Snowy Owls, Waterfalls and Much More

Until recently, Snowy Owls were a rare sight to see in my neck of the woods. Recently they’ve been visiting more frequently and have become a target for area photographers. Around a year ago, I saw a photographer write this on social media:

I was out at 7 am and found a Snowy Owl on the waterfr...

Lightroom Quick Tips – Episode 117: Local Adjustment Scrubby Slider

This is the 117th episode of Lightroom Quick Tips where I give a quick Lightroom tip.

If you do any local adjustment, Graduated Filter, Radial Filter or Brush, there is a little trick allowing you to adjust the intensity of the adjustment after the tool’s adjustment is applied. In this video, I demo it, the “Local Adjustment Scrubby Slider”.

I cover another way to do this exact same adjustment in Episode 112 of Lightroom Quick Tips – “My Favorite Trick”. You may prefer to do this adjustment that way — you can view that video here:

1 – Who Am I?

This is the first of a regular series of short blog posts or as I prefer to call them, essays, on things I’ve learned about photography that weren’t taught to me in a classroom or a textbook. Hence the name:

Photography After the Textbook

1 – Who Am I?

About a month ago I photographed a scene and posted the image shown above to Instagram. To me it was an O.K. image – nothing special. I happened upon the scene, liked the symmetry and took the shot.

Within a few weeks, I noticed at least four other photographers, after I posted my image, stood in the exact same place and took the same picture.

In the past, I’ve often remarked how I’ll post an image on social media and within a short time photogra...

Photography After the Textbook (PATT)

Like many of you, I’ve spent a lot of hours studying photography in a classroom, many more hours with my nose buried in a book and more recently, I’ve watched hours upon hours of YouTube videos. All of those tools, along with my naked ambition, have helped me become a relatively successful photographer.

What I’ve come to realize is that there are a lot of things I’ve learned about photography that weren’t taught to me in the traditional way. Tidbits of knowledge that I’ve acquired during my journey...
