Review: Aperlite YH-400 Flash

by Anthony Morganti

If you’re reading this in your email, click on the headline to watch the video

I think it’s fair to say that this flash is the entry level model of the Aperlite line of flashes. It’s entry level only because it lacks some advanced features of it’s slightly more expensive cousins such as the YH-500 and YH-700.

The flash has three modes of operation — Manual, Multi Mode and Slave. What you’ll find missing is any type of TTL mode — TTL stands for “Through The Lens” and means that a flash that is equipped with TTL communicates to the camera to properly illuminate a scene. The YH-400 lacks that convenience but realistically, as one advances as a photographer, they often find that they’re using flash TTL less and less.
